FINALLY! We’re super psyched about this MASSIVE piece of news. The purveyors of Leeds’ best underground parties, Cosmic Slop, will be bringing their awesome vinyl collection and the now legendary party vibes from Mabgate to Canal Mills as we celebrate the second edition of our film festival!
We didn’t get to do a proper afterparty last year, ended up at Nation of Shopkeepers with a bunch of lovely film-makers for a really nice get-together, but this year we felt we should really make an event out of it. If you’re no stranger to Cosmic Slop, you’ll understand the queues to get into their events, SO DONT MISS THIS! Remember, this is not a night club – it’s a party…
Access the afterparty!
Your film festival weekend or day ticket will entitle you FREE access to the afterparty. But if you’re coming for the party only, you can purchase the afterparty-only ticket for only £5.50.
No/Gloss Film Festival is donating 18% of the afterparty-only ticket sales (excluding booking fee) to their registered charity, MAP. So, remember, for every afterparty-only ticket we sell, 18% of it is donated to charity – dance to a good cause! Buy the afterparty tickets here.
Here’s a short blurb from Cosmic Slop:
DJs Tom Smith and Mike Greenwell musical tastes span house and disco, via the electronic new wave and Detroit. They also dig hip-hop, jazz and funk, through to Afro, Latin and rock. Anything in between goes down well too. It all makes for the unique vibe at a Cosmic Slop party held in their gallery space, in Mabgate, where Tom’s homemade soundsytem has caused quite a stir since 2009.
Importantly, there’s a message in the music too. Cosmic Slop is an event and soundsystem that helps to generate income for Leeds-based registered charity, MAP (Music and Arts Production).
MAP runs an education project and arts centre. It has two workshops and the gallery space. The charity provides arts and music education for young people who are not accessing mainstream education. All monies raised through Cosmic Slop directly fund the charitable activities of MAP, primarily music and arts education.
The ethos of Cosmic Slop is that music has a crucial role in today’s society in promoting awareness, cohesion and unity.
The education project also uses art and music to help fulfil these objectives. Cosmic Slop is a not-forprofit event and attempts to operate outside of commercial structures. It will continue to be staged at the gallery and has become an essential fund raising activity throughout the current financial climate for both the arts and education.
The money raised by Cosmic Slop pays the bills at MAP. So that’s the important part, just remember that by coming to dance at Cosmic Slop, you will be helping to support an important charity in Leeds, hopefully it makes you feel that little bit better.
See you on the floor.
